Today National Doughnut Day hard to imagine now that back in 1938 it was initiated by The Salvation Army to honor the men and women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I and is not just a marketing ploy by the doughnut giants who sell millions or is it billions of these legal sugar highs a year.
Interestingly on the same day 94 years earlier in 1844 the YMCA was set up by George Williams to put Christian principles into practice by developing a healthy “body, mind, and spirit.” Would he have approved of a doughnut day?
Is today’s thought that a sugar rush treat for one day will do no harm or concern that celebrating doughnuts may in years to come seem as ridiculous as celebrating Marlboro lights Day. You choose. For today I will pass on a free doughnut though had it been National Brownie Day then that might be quite another thing.
Have a nice day
