be ashamed

1. feeling shame; distressed or embarrassed by feelings of guilt, foolishness, or disgrace:
He felt ashamed for having spoken so cruelly.

2.unwilling or restrained because of fear of shame, ridicule, or disapproval: They were ashamed to show their work

What then is shame. It’s a painful feeling that hurts enough when its full force is felt that you want to run away and hide. To disappear from sight, become invisible unseen, apart.

How though do you escape it’s grasp? What can you do to redeem self in eyes of others? What penitent action will be enough for you to be allowed to return? Can you ever be who you are and not hide? Questions today but no ready answers. Seeking forgiveness an art not a science. Being who we are and others accepting it not in my gift. A departure today from upbeat wiki advice today poems to make you think.

protest

As the year draws to a close I am looking out not in. Word choice reflecting top story on today’s news not personal demons. Violence in the good old US of A, a country not at war but still a divide that has erupted. Can non violent protest succeed. Is that what we call democracy. Who has right on their side. Philosophy in 140 word sound bites. I think not but a seed sowed will if nurtured over time grow. Time. Cue music. Will we overcome some day…

save the bees

Today would have chosen ‘sit in the sun’ but that’s what I plan to do, not write about. Instead following campaign trail. With election looming might have expected promises being made that if we vote for them then they will make life better. Interestingly campaign has been less inspirational more focused on how alternatives will be worse but that’s how it is. I too will avoid the economy , health and care, defence, education. Not asking you to take action or protest simply think about world we want for our children. Will it have bees?

listen to music

Today’s choice happened to be on the radio and chimed with mood. “When your legs don’t work like they used to before… ” Next was Cher so if that’s more to your taste at this moment feel free. …”Maybe it’s all part of a plan ,Well, I’ll just keep on making the same mistakes,Hoping that you’ll understand”

run a marathon

“When I do the best I can with what I have, then I have won my race.” Jay Foonberg, 72-year-old runner

How can you not be inspired by London Marathon , the characters the stories. Many there to raise money for causes dear to them not for personal glory. May not be running marathon any time soon but advice given to runners will stand me in good stead for life challenges.

• Start out slow, ease into it
• Run your own marathon
• Don’t get too emotional
• Break race down into small steps
• Don’t give in to self doubt or hardship
• Talk to yourself , dig deep for extra strength

Could at this point show video of winners and celebrities, but that would miss the point, everyone will have won their race.

cook

Mmm… should have had breakfast before started watching Saturday Kitchen Live as I make lazy start to the day. Cooking definitely one of life’s pleasures. Who to choose Ginno, Tom … Nigella, James spoilt for choice. For a change Rick Stein after all this trip has been in part about expanding personal ‘food heaven’. A willingness to try new. Doesn’t have to be bungee jumping, food can count too. So here you are

Realise not that adventurous, try this one too.

ruminate

Rumination is the compulsively focused attention on the symptoms of one’s distress, and on its possible causes and consequences, as opposed to its solutions. Rumination is similar to worry except rumination focuses on bad feelings and experiences from the past, whereas worry is concerned with potential bad events in the future. Both rumination and worry are associated with anxiety and other negative emotional states.

So what to do when seduced by this state sucked in to repeat over and over same negative thoughts with no end in sight.

Acknowledge that’s what I am doing , recognise the pattern , STOP and ask self if wish to continuIe, if so WHY , what will it achieve.   Is there a now problem could focus on instead of looking back.

Pull yourself together comes to mind , snap out of it too. These links will hopefully make me pause long enough to refocus. Top tip to call time.
