‘Black Friday’ yesterday, the American shoppers dream, post Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas indulgence. Personally not convinced of benefits of retail therapy but guess depends on what one regards as a personal treat. Is a square of chocolate retail therapy? Guess so just as much as a new lip gloss. Spending is spending whatever you buy.

Internet as ever can provide ‘evidence’ for anything……A study, published in the Journal of Psychology and Marketing in the U.S., concluded: ‘Retail therapy purchases were overwhelmingly beneficial, leading to mood boosts and no regrets or guilt.’ Quality of study debatable non response bias a concern, were happy shoppers more likely to respond. Enough analysis for one day. Adding personal treats to toolkit fair enough as long as the treats don’t undermine the goals!

Happy shopping

Have a good day
